R26C and MiFare DESfire v2

Hi,
I recently purchased a pack of NXP MiFare DESfire v2 RFID cards. Based on reading around the forums and instruction manual in the Wiki it should work fine.
I am using the instructions given here to read the card:
viewtopic.php?t=112
My firmware version is: 26.31.4.111
When I set the R26 into "Issuing" mode, enter the card name and put it on the reader then click "Obtain" - nothing happens??
These are the cards I bought: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PN46HNY? ... E_DDE_dt_1
They work at 13.56MHz and are NXP ones so they should work....
As this is the first time using RFID cards I am wondering if I have to write a code to them first before I can read them in the R26?
A bit of research on the NXP site came up with this: https://www.mifare.net/support/forum/to ... m-cloning/
which claims that one needs to write data to the card first.
Is my understanding correct in that my card currently is empty with no "IC Key Code" currently?
Thanks.
